St George Christian School Opening Ceremony

6 Sep 2023

NBRS was delighted to attend the newly completed Atrium Building and The Chapel Gallery opening ceremony at St George Christian School. The revitalised campus breathes new life into the school's learning and social spaces, creating an inspiring environment for students to learn and grow.

The Governor-General of Australia, His Excellency General The Honourable David Hurley AC DSC (Ret’d), and his wife, Her Excellency Mrs Linda Hurley, officially opened The Chapel Gallery. Euan Macleod, Gabby Germanos, Mr Paddy Benn, and Mr James Honor assisted with the ribbon cutting. Congratulations to everyone who played a part in making this amazing school a reality.

“Our new buildings and spaces in between have been designed to create an environment that is enjoyable to be in and one that inspires students in their learning, study and play" -Mr James Honor, Principle, St George Christian School.

The Chapel Gallery holds special significance to the community and is one of the few examples of Gothic Revival church architecture still standing in the local area, with the foundation stone laid in 1901. The Chapel has been restored to its original state as a stand-alone building. The Chapel has been reimagined as a permanent gallery space, offering students and the wider community opportunities to connect, engage, learn and create.

The Atrium building connects to the Terrace Building on one side and the Bayview Building on the other. The new entrance to the Library on Level 1 has created a light-filled arrival point. A purpose-built Reception area within the Atrium provides a warm welcome to both students and guests. The landscaped areas and reopening of the sports near The Chapel Gallery have provided bountiful outdoor areas for students to enjoy.

NBRS and St. George Christian School share a longstanding partnership focused on enhancing their campus. One notable collaboration was the design and construction of the Terrace Building, which was finished in 2022. This remarkable facility includes science labs, visual arts studios, classrooms, versatile breakout areas, a spacious basketball court, a covered colonnade for sheltered movement, improved staff amenities, and an underground parking area.

History of St George Christian School
St George Christian School was established in 1981, with nine students and one teacher. From humble beginnings, the schools have grown to two campuses and now stand at 800 students with nearly 100 teaching staff. Over the years, the school has been transformed from individual buildings of red brick and demountables, to a series of purpose-built campus buildings.
